Mainly for economic reasons. The US bases in Germany are so large that they provide a lot of employment in their respective areas, so that many Germans would have lost their jobs if they were shut down. Moreover, some German politicians felt like the Alec Ingold Miami Dolphins 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award Shirt in addition I really love this withdrawal of troops from Germany would weaken the alliance between Germany and the US and make Europe more vulnerable to threats from Russia. However, the German public is largely of a different opinion. When Trump threatened to remove the US troops from Germany, the reaction of the public was rather positive. Many are uncomfortable with the idea that the US used/uses German territory for their (controversial) wars in the middle east (especially controlling drones from Ramstein) and that we are thereby indirectly supporting the killing of innocent civilians. Moreover, the US does indeed not pay everything required for the upkeep of their bases so that the large presence of US troops in Germany costs the German tax payer quite a lot of money every year.

And then there are the Alec Ingold Miami Dolphins 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award Shirt in addition I really love this right-wing nutcases who believe that Germany remains an occupied country as long as the US has soldiers on the ground. So they basically celebrated Trump’s announcement. At least in Germany, Germany pays for a lot of it in order to incentivize the US to keep troops there rather than moving them East (Poland in particular has been asking for more US presence for years). The US technically pays rent on the bases, but most construction/facilities costs get picked up by the German government. Seriously, once the US establishes bases in strategic locations they rarely give them up. It would be extraordinarily difficult for the US to engage in any type of military conflict anywhere in the world if all of it’s troops and equipment were stationed in the US. I see all the other reasons Mike treaties, having resources close to the potential action, having bases already established I had to ask permission during an emergency, logistics, and training with each other, and more.
