I don’t know if he’d “handle” Mitch McConnell, but I feel like he’d damn sure point out his wife’s commie connections every opportunity he got, and rightfully so. He absolutely shilled for corporate interests. He personally led a crusade against a progressive energy regulator in the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and federal government at the behest of his oil industry backers in Texas. One of the largest contractors during the Vietnam War was also a major funder of his campaigns. I think he would be appalled. He was of the old school, where you were friends with and respected fellow politicians. You just had different opinions about how to run the country. Nowadays, politicians are mortal enemies and must be destroyed at all costs. Truly appalling! lyndon johnson was not friends with a lot if politicians, and made pretty serious enemies in his own party who opposed desegregation
Afrogado Mashup Shirt, hoodie, long sleeve, v-neck tee
That’s not really a fair assessment of Johnson. He was obsessed with power and doing whatever it took to get it and maintain it. Which included a lot of transactional politics and a lot of dirty tricks. I’d say McConnell is a close contemporary comparison. It just so happens that the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and winds were blowing towards things like the New Deal when Johnson was coming up in the House and then things like desegregation when he was in the presidency. If he was around today he might very well be a new McConnell type considering where the political winds are blowing in Texas hill country these days. He’s a really good example of a politician doing the right things for the wrong reasons, and being damn good at it. Honestly this math sound weird but I feel like the closest modern leader to LBJ is Nancy Pelosi. Love them or hate them, both have the skills of wrangling their party votes with an iron fist behind the scenes, and exercising influence through strict control of fundraising even when it means bowing to corporate interests to get those funds.
he brought electricity to the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and hill country, and the space program to houston. i think he would be pleased that texas now produces wind power at record levels. i would like to build an lbj monument, just solar panels that spell out lbj, somewhere around hill country or johnson city. any grant-writers out there? So something to remember about LBJ is he ran against Barry Goldwater, who started the template of current GOP politicians. He understood the direction things were going in his lifetime. I think he’d be disappointed, but not surprised. He also innovated in aggressively campaigning against that form of extremism: he understood how to emotionally energize the anti-crazy vote, went after worried Republican vote (*when your party’s candidate says Americans have a ‘craven fear of death’, do you really want to just not vote?” *), went far into extreme (for the time) implied anti-opponent claims (vote for me, or the entire human race will die), and had campaign strategists who realized the value of having a campaign advertisement so controversial everyone would show it and talk about it for free. The most important advertisement of the election, arguably the most important factor in the entire election, and perhaps the most important US campaign television advertisement of all time, was only actually run once, at 9:50pm, toward the end of a Monday night movie screening on television. The emotional shock, outrage, media coverage and analysis, and furious discussion made sure everyone knew about it and was talking about it and the subject for the rest of the campaign. The timing of the one true showing itself, and ‘family’ film, was even chosen for shock value in hopes parents would still be watching it right after their children fell asleep, so they’d think of their sleeping children while watching the unsuspecting three-year old girl about to die in a nuclear apocalypse. It was so striking that TIME had the defining image of it as their cover… as news coverage, not an advertisement.

Some information about Afrogado Mashup Shirt
By the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and end of the campaign, the opponent who wanted to paint LBJ as a weak pacifist who couldn’t stand up to the USSR was left on the defense, responding to LBJ’s messaging, complaining about unfair campaign rhetoric, trying to convince people he wouldn’t actually end the world, and trying to show that he wasn’t literally mentally ill. It was the largest US presidential election landslide in a century. I think LBJ would be disappointed and familiar with the way US politics are now, but I think he might be surprised his obliteration of Goldwater didn’t kill off that side of the party. Still: it took around a half century for it to recover from what LBJ did to it. If you ever have the desire to read a political biography (and if you never do, you’re probably healthier and more well-adjusted for it, so fair play), then Robert Caro’s four-and-hopefully-five-soon volume bio of LBJ is the absolute gold standard. These books go into detail not just into LBJ himself but into all the relevant factors that made him. The rainfall pattern differences between east and west Texas, the workings of the US Senate and how it’s designed to be naturally small-c conservative and sluggish, how to rig a Texas election in 1948, and how the US south was a racist terror state for a century after the Civil War all get significant amounts of space just to explain how LBJ was the way he was (i.e. an incredibly hard working, and motivated and skilful politician) and how he did the things he did (and despite what I said about being hard-working and skilful, it’s far from a hagiography). Caro has spent nearly fifty years writing these things, reading everything in the archives that mentions LBJ, and even moving house to actually live in LBJ’s footsteps at times, and it shows.
I am currently reading “The Power Broker”, also by Caro (inspired by the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and 99% Invisible podcast year-long read-along). I am wondering whether to tackle the Johnson books next – it seems so daunting, for a president I have no real interest in (and I’m Canadian), but Caro is an amazing researcher and writer so maybe I’ll give it a try. I think of Caro’s books as books about how political power works, rather than a story about some bloke or other. It’s just that the lenses through which Caro explains power are these two people who happened to be exceptionally adept at wielding power and getting other people to do what they want. He was a deeply flawed man and his foreign policy was a disaster, but one thing that can most certainly be said for LBJ is that no other POTUS made Congress work quite like he did. People underestimate how much LBJ was personally involved in getting every major piece of legislation passed during his presidency. Getting the Civil Rights Act of 1964 through despite significant opposition in his own party was no small feat and is a greater accomplishment than most Presidents ever achieve. It’s unlikely JFK would have had the same legislative success had he lived. Yes, and if he would’ve followed Kennedy‘s plan to pull out of Vietnam, he would have gone down as one of the greatest presidents of all time, but as it stands, he acquired a lot of blood on his hands when he double down on the Vietnam war and sent all those young men to die in a war that was no of concern of theirs. Not only that but he didn’t even run it through Congress nor the Senate, and instead claimed the war was a “police action” which was just completely undemocratic.
Kennedy was not blameless in Vietnam, and was not the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and advocate for peace he is now seen as – would highly encourage you to read “Best and Brightest” by David Halberstam. I just wanted to add onto your comment. David Halberstam is such a great and prolific historian. That he is almost invariably anyone’s choice of -read this- when it comes to 20th century America. Kennedy served in the navy during World War II and knew the horrors of war firsthand. He knew what it was like to lose a brother. He knew what it was like to lose a son. National Security Action Memorandum Number 263 shows he had plans to pull out of Vietnam at a gradual pace. He wasn’t a warmonger, and with McNamara saying they had three months to turn the tide of war over in their favor with only 15,000 men, it doesn’t make sense for Kennedy to withdraw 1000 troops if he had plans to expand the war. The situation was more complex than that. Another explanations is, that Kennedy and McNamara didn’t like how Diem handled the war. So they threatened to withdraw 1000 advisers, to bring him back in line.
“Our assistance to these nations can be painful, risky and costly, as is true in Southeast Asia today. But we dare not weary of the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and task. For our assistance makes possible the stationing of 3-5 million allied troops along the Communist frontier at one-tenth the cost of maintaining a comparable number of American soldiers. A successful Communist breakthrough in these areas, necessitating direct United States intervention…” So its pretty clear, that there would have been a direct US intervention if there was the possibilty of south east asia falling to communism. He simply thought or hoped that south Vietnam could have handled the situation alone with some help from the us.
The drug war would have certainly been different. Even the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and hippy movement would have been significantly changed I still think Nixon shows up, in 1972. Who would Republicans have offered up in 1972? Still too early for Reagan. I do wonder how the Vietnam War would’ve ended without US involvement. Vietnam is going through somewhat of an economic miracle at the moment, maybe it would’ve happened a decade earlier without the war Keep in mind this “work” would mostly just be meeting and talking to people. In many cases drinking and eating nice food would probably be involved. It’s not like he was in a coal mine or something. For extroverts this kind of job would be like breathing. Sure but sleeping 4h per night “without breaks” is going to fuck you up regardless of if your job is just about normal existence. Hence the suspected cap. There are people that function well with very little to no sleep. I remember reading an article by a neurosurgeon that had to do operations 12+hrs long. He broke his sleep up, sleeping 2 or 3 hours at night then “power napped” for 30 minutes once or twice a day. He wrote in depth about how this was possible and that he performed his surgeries perfectly. Of course, he mentioned that he was extremely high functioning and intelligent, probably some genetic thing that helped all this. It was a fascinating article, I’ll link if I can find it tomorrow.
Also the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and “no breaks” thing doesn’t really make sense though. No lunch, dinner? Or is that under the umbrella of working? This is extremely rare, and the proportion of such individuals is much lower than the proportion of people fooled into thinking they are one of them. Meals totally fell under the umbrella of working for LBJ. He would conduct meetings while sitting on the toilet with the bathroom door open. “Short sleepers” are a thing. A small percentage of the population only needs 4 hours sleep. He very well may have been one. Johnson was also a lying self-aggrandizer who would make shit up on the spot if he thought it would make him look good. There just wasn’t quite as much media around back then to catch him in it. But anyone saying they do it regularly is lying. Basically saying the walked uphill both ways each day for school. I can attest as a commercial fisherman this can happen for an entire trip you make .Two or so weeks with around the clock spiced here and there, 2 days off to restock and shoot the gun again. You rarely get to sit down as well . these days I stick to a specific fishery that has these hours but at 61 a couple of months of the year that this fishery operates with my crewmen is like what we refer to as ” candy ass” .Just to be clear 75 percent of the people in this fishery do the same thing. I average 4-5 hours a sleep a night. Even afterwards I sleep 5 and get up. For anyone interested. Film Path to War ( Micheal Gambon as LBJ and Alec Baldwin as Robert McNamara, Donald Sutherland as Clark Clifford) still on you tube last time I checked.
He also committed electoral fraud, would lie about anything to win elections, and was generally an awful human being. The small counties of Hansford and Kinney, which had favored Stevenson with margins of over three to one and over two to one respectively in the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and primary, did not hold runoffs, assuming that their vote totals would not influence the outcome At the risk of sending one down a wormhole about how Texas elections would have some counties not hold primaries in certain situations until really recently This is a misunderstanding of the situation. Johnson “won” the Democratic primary runoff by 87 votes, but that’s because the political bosses in Jim Wells and Duval Counties, who Johnson hired to fix the election, waited until after the rest of the state had reported their election results, then with that knowledge fabricated enough fake votes to give him the win. If Hansford and Kinney had held runoffs, it would have only resulted in more fake votes being created to account for that.
Just to be clear, this isn’t some screed or rumour. They found the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and guy who facilitated this in Johnson’s first election. There is proof of the first statement. Yeah, let’s not forget that the election that got him to congress in the first place was more than likely extremely rigged He included chess playing into his work total since as he claimed, he was using the game to strategically sharpen his mind… I include pillow and blanket testing in my work day schedule. So I work 16hrs a day, 5 days a week. I work 8hrs for each of the other 2. LBJ got shit done. Civil rights, war on Poverty. He tried to use the same shit on the Vietnam War and failed miserably (though he almost ended it if not for Nixon’s real heinous election shenanigans). But domestically? Maybe the most effective President ever. from a company where his wife, was the main stockholder! they made a fortune ´fore the war was over; its kitty history, cuddly planet like ours! He pulled a 20 hour day once? Sure I’ll believe it. As an average? Horseshit. Anyone who tells you they consistently work that much is a liar. That’s 4 hours for sleep, then you have to eat and shower and get dressed. Even if he never skipped a beat it’s not possible.

I have a conservative SIL in Alabama who works for a fertility clinic creating these embryos. Oops, looks like she’s out of a job because she voted for these fools. Ask her opinion on the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and ruling and what her bosses think will happen….I would love to hear that conversation!! Something something, it’s the damn liberals. Something something, look at how awful everything is because of Biden. Something something, MAGA 2024. Even though all that shit was a lie and dude admitted it in court this past week. All those fucking idiots should lose their offices for supporting anything to do with it I know a lot of women who voted for this, who also benefited from using IVF. The bright side is this will blow up in their faces. If they’ve already gotten their kids, they probably won’t give a fuck. Most of these morons don’t care about anything to doesn’t directly and immediately affect them. This is so sadly true. Every anti-choice woman I know (3 total) has either had an abortion or considered it at one time, but now have decided others shouldn’t have that option. I think it’s guilt. It’s like going on the nursing subs and listening to how many of them have a story where a woman berated and scorned them for “killing babies” while literally in their office to have an abortion. It’s not even mental gymnastics or guilt cause then they’d have an idea that they’re wrong and just be suppressing it. It’s complete and utter brainwashing.
And people still say both sides are the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and same. It’s insane. Any woman who votes republican or sits this next election out is a moron. One of the most vile pro-life people I know… Knew? I guess because I basically yeeted them out of my life was hugely pro-choice and “bodily autonomy” until she had her kid who is permanently mentally disabled and unable to ever care for themselves due to a genetic abnormality. She then became staunchly pro-life and weaponizes her kid every chance she gets, even though it’s obvious she hates her kid because she didn’t get the life she felt she was owed due to their birth. Those of us who know her basically came to the consensus that she wants everyone to have the chance to be as miserable as her.
A lot of people, in my experience, become reactionary because they feel it is unfair that they have to follow self-imposed rules that you dont This is the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and most obvious yet little-talked about explanation. So many people who are angry that other people won’t live their lives the way they live theirs. I’m not a betting man, but if I were, I’d wager a good number of these pro-life folks are also upset at coworkers who don’t go the extra mile for their job when it’s not required but since they do they expect their coworkers to as well. And if they don’t they’re somehow lazy. And when they do, it’s generally all for show with no real value behind it (largely just staying late or dragging their feet to get more OT) and is extremely transparent to the point the person they are trying to impress just scoffs and gives it no further consideration. By and large, most of the right wingers who I’ve worked with are frankly mediocre at their jobs, often the team drag, and are convinced they can get ahead by kissing ass rather than producing anything of value.
Hahaha I was just thinking about the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and person I had in mind when I typed that out. It was a woman I worked with and she definitely “stayed late” and “worked hard” but it was not as productive as the people who actually valued their time that came on time and left at the actual end of shift. What I meant was, they have an idea of what “going the extra mile” looks like but they don’t consider the work smarter not harder strategy. It would take her significantly longer to accomplish a task that another person could do in less than a half hour but lament that it was because she “wasn’t good at computers” like the younger coworkers were (spoiler alert, it had nothing to do with age). There also seems to be a theme with that sort of person, that if you’re not constantly at least looking busy, you’re clearly lazy and not working hard and not helping. I had a boss like that too, one of his favorite things to say was, “if you had time to lean, you had time to clean,” even when the entire area was completely spotless. I swear, we wasted so much money on cleaner because if you didn’t have a task or a client, you needed to be cleaning. Like actually cleaning. We had a janitorial service for godsake.
My wife’s parents do it too– they’re way down the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and crazy rabbit hole right wing — they expect guests to do housework. And not like clean up after yourself, wipe down the counter if you made a sandwich, or do your own dishes, I’m talking getting out the cleaning supplies and doing deep scrub cleaning, even if the house is immaculate. Meanwhile, they sit there and do things that make messes or watch TV and then bitch at you that you didn’t do it their way — which is generally a very slow, inefficient, AND often wrong way. And you’d think there’s a thread here that someone was in the military. No, neither parent nor my former boss ever served. There’s this bizarre fixation with right wing people that you always need to be working, even if its total make to the point of actually being detrimental work, if you relax even for a second. Oh damn. I think that’s why a lot of older or far right folks think people aren’t working hard enough or have this idea that self-care is somehow a form of self-indulgence. Studies show a happier worker is more productive and less likely to make mistakes. It’s why the military invests in MWRs and provide housing/benefits for your family; they understand that a worker can’t focus on the task at hand if they have to worry about the other big things in life.
All of the Afrogado Mashup Shirt and by the same token and misconceptions that right-wing people have about labor are related to the perceived values (like the concept of “working hard to get into heaven” because everything needs to be “earned”) that extreme capitalism has instilled in them (don’t think, just work!). In the words of their esteemed Cheato, “so sad.” This is exactly it. My mother vilified me for having an abortion at 19 bc she had 5 kids between 18 and 28 and how goddamned dare I choose a different future than the one she was denied. This always boggles my mind when talking with my grandma. She got pregnant at 16 after being pressured for sex by my grandfather. They got married bc she had no access to finances and her family wouldn’t support her. They were kids raising a kid. It was tough, they were poor, and my dad didn’t get a lot of the support he needed because his parents were still kids themselves. My grandma had to give up college scholarships to become a stay at home mother. Her and my dad’s mental health struggles and the impact that had on me are the exact reason why I think everyone deserves a choice on if they want a kid or to be involved in their kids lives. But she’s so caught up in her own guilt about getting pregnant young 60 years ago that she’s obsessed with punishing and making every other girl who makes the same “mistake” suffer just like she did.
