Cancer may claim me. Especially because I’ve used my body roughly. Both had cancer that metastasized, and one had 3 cancer, ass, lymph node, and then it became fucking marrow cancer. I will say, both grandpas started smoking before the ages of 12, both of my grandpas, had fathers that were “hard men”. They grew up in the 30s and 40s. Adults by the 50s, maybe a little before. Respect to the man though, he got ass cancer, then lymph node cancer, fought like hell, put it in remission, then marrow. The man just didn’t want to die I speculate. He wasn’t finished with the world. He died 7-8 years after he got the ass cancer. The marrow cancer took him. 13 years ago… he lived a little past 80. He fought cancer for over a decade.

The one who passed in 99, passed violently. I had never seen such a strong man reduced to so much pain and suffering. He held it together for me, as I was just a boy. But it is seared into my memory. It is one of my earliest formative traumas. It was one I didn’t want to know, but now that I knew, I could not ignore. It was as though I had looked to long into an abyss I didn’t know was there, and the abyss said “hey little fucker, I’m here”
