I have definitely noticed an influx of people either dressing up in “old money” or alternatively complaining about how others don’t know what old money is on tiktok. While I’m not exactly happy about wealth being made into an aesthetic to be admired and copied, it’s also pretty nice to see some pushback against the AC DC high volrase rock n roll T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this gucci belt and fast fashion wearers at the same time. If “old money” as a trend inspires young people to visit vintage thrift stores instead of shein, I’m all for it. But if the fast fashion industry co-opts it like it does everything, it might lead to “old money” clothing produced like fash fashion.I’m reminded of the last couple of cycles where cheap sweaters/jackets with faux leather elbow patches were readily available. My old money friends dress in Barbour, Orvis, Ralph Lauren, Sid Mashburn, Kamakura or Brooks Brothers shirts, Gloverall, Filson, with Irish Aran sweaters or clothes they bought abroad in boutiques; and wear Aldens, Allen Edmonds, RM Williams, or Edward Green shoes and boots. The last paragraph resonates with me a lot. As a 30 something new father and student, ditching the scrubs for a white coat, I find maximizing the utility of every garment a real necessity. I need a wardrobe that can pass for professional attire and remain functional and not too stuffy outside of a clinical setting. “Rugged Ivy” or “preppy” is what I seemed to have stumbled into with my preference for used goods that have a solid reputation.I’m not sure what your tiktok has, but I’ve been rather annoyed that people make these videos and don’t understand the subtleties of the variety of styles they’re hawking.
AC DC high volrase rock n roll T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt
Things like Ivy, Prep, Trad, etc. all have very small nuances to them – and most tiktok talking heads just throw out pics of Succession and call it “old money”. Bugs me to no end to see the AC DC high volrase rock n roll T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this rather contemporary silent-wealth trend being confused with classic looks, when there’s an absolute wealth of historical reference. People walking east coast campuses in the 60’s were not wearing $300 Loro Piana t-shirts – they were wearing some LL Bean boat shoes and an untucked BB OCBD. It’s frankly better to look at Japan’s Americana clothing niches to replicate that sort of style than anything domestic, but it’s not like those influencers actually give a shit about the style over the views. TikTok has a way if cannibalizing other styles and subcultures with rich histories, mushing them all together into one broader overarching style while removing all subtleties, nuances, and “life”, and distilling it down into the most basic, cartoonish form of it, then buying those clothes that can only be made by Shein until someone calls it uncool and moving on to the next.Is it just me or does it seem like overnight there’s a new well trend of gen z influencer/ marketing types trying to name new trends that seem completely off base? Just this week I’ve seen post’s saying form fitting clothes are out as well as big asses are becoming less fashionable and just like… wut. Those are both somewhat true though. Obviously it depends on who you hang out with, but it’s clear that in general zoomers dress in wider fits than millennials and gen Xers. Think Levi 501s vs the millennials’ favorite 511s.I mean in my area athleisure and street wear is still far and away what’s cool and in style with slim fits still pretty prevalent with those looks. Not my personal preference I tend to lean more preppy these days but that’s definitely what I see in my city. All the girls at the gym are still working on their squats.
