As a resident of the area, I wish they really gave it more thought. All I can think about when the government names things “liberty” or “freedom” is freedom fries. It really is as generic a name as it gets. They are renaming Fort Gordon in Augusta to Fort Eisenhower but Sherman would have been perfect, it’s right on the line of his march to the sea. Really? I think the new name is stupid. Not saying I support the old one, but I don’t like the new one either. Lol I have to agree with you there, there are tons of US servicemen that could be honored with this renaming and used as an example of the type of spirit that one would want in the army. Fort Liberty sounds like a compromise to me. Smart naming it Fort Liberty. Conservatives will have a hard time trying to badmouth it when it literally has the word liberty in it. Conservatives don’t believe you should have the freedom to define your own personal pronouns, but change the name of a military base (named after a traitor) or take down a statue (of a traitor) and all the sudden their personal liberty is being attacked.

Fort Liberty is pretty cringe, too. May as well call it Fort Patriot or Fort Murica. Better than Bragg, I guess. I bet they won’t be changing the 54 Years 1969 – 2023 Matthew Perry Thank You For The Memories Shirt in other words I will buy this two streets named Bragg Blvd. Lmao this is like Comcast rebranding as Xfinity after years of being voted the worst company in the United States. I have family with birth certificates from countries that don’t exist anymore. Thankfully, history books still exist to prove those places once did. I support renaming bases but I cannot abide another military property being called Liberty. For fucks sake, people! We have so many badass people, events, and important places in our history that we can use other words from time to time! Fuck the confederacy. But fort liberty is a garbage name. Could’ve picked any number of awesome women, Native Americans, Medal of Honor winners etc that it should’ve been named for My friend’s father was in the army (possibly the reserves, not sure) and was stationed at Fort Bragg for a period of time when he was active. He is pissed about this, for some reason and is swearing he’ll never call it anything but Fort Bragg and he “doesn’t accept” the name change. Probably because tradition means something to people who are a part of that tradition, and the renaming feels incendiary
