Goodbye SS safety net. The whole point of SS is to keep seniors / disabled individuals from being homeless / dying in the streets. Any plan that allows people to gamble away that money defeats the entire point of social security. That isn’t the alternative, unless we allow (GOP) politicians to make that the alternative. The line that SS will go broke in year X and there’s nothing we can do about it is a lie. All we have to do is put more money into SS and it doesn’t go broke. Right now we only take money for SS from the first $147,000 each person earns each year. Raise that cap, and now SS is funded well beyond 2034. But the rich don’t want that, they know they won’t need SS so they don’t want any more money taken from them. Raise this cap and the shortfall is fixed. Take a higher percentage of people’s incomes. So instead of taking 6.2%, you could take 7.2% of income up to the cap. This is a worse solution IMO because it affects poor, middle class, and wealthy people’s incomes. But it is another way to fix the shortfall.

If you value a society where old people / disabled people aren’t living on the streets, then vote to fix SS instead of buying into the BS that it’s impossible to fix and will run out of money in X years no matter what. It wasn’t proposed because it would be a better system than the current system, it was proposed because it would give the rich more money through the stock market and that is Republican’s #1 goal. It’s a bad idea because it’s gambling with money that people need, and it makes the stock market even more likely to have issues by inflating it with a giant infusion of money which encourages risky speculation.
