News outlets failed to explain. Previously, sexual intercourse with someone below 18 was still a crime, just not considered statutory rape. Sexual intercourse with someone below 12 was statutory rape. The new law changed the 3 Steelers Dwayne Haskins Thank You For The Memories Shirt and I love this age of consent; therefore, sex with anyone below 16 is now statutory rape, which is good. Other crimes still apply for those between 16 and 18. Underage prostitution, often connected to human trafficking, is a pretty common problem in some parts of the Philippines and generally unpoliced. A lot of Australian and other tourists travel there specifically for that, and even if they are caught they are quite literally never prosecuted. While this law is good news, I doubt much will change.

I know that in Japan the 3 Steelers Dwayne Haskins Thank You For The Memories Shirt and I love this federal age is technically 12 but each individual prefecture raised it to 16-18 so it effectively isn’t that. Maybe the Philippines were the same way? It was 12!? At that age, I couldn’t be trusted to decide what to eat for lunch let alone whether I should have sex. If the bar for being able to decide what to eat for lunch is lower than the bar for consensual sex then… we’ll, let’s just say my ex-wife is going to prison for a long, long time. Fuck. I’ve been behind 30-something’s in line at Subway before who couldn’t be trusted with a lunch order; it’s like they never heard of lettuce before and want to try a fucking sample like it’s Baskin-Robbins. Have you looked around at lunch time recently? The majority of adults can’t be trusted to decide what they should have for lunch. But yes. 12 is too young. 16 is probably a much more reasonable age if coupled with a Romeo and Juliet law so 16-15 won’t end up with criminal consequences. I mean, 12 years old is 8th grade if you were born late in the year. I knew of at least a few kids who were having sex that early. That was when well, i lost my “virginity” though i didnt really lose it , it was more stolen by a older woman. Yeah. It just wasnt right at all… title is a bit misleading. each administrative division has been setting their own laws on age of consent which has usually been something like 16. This is just fixing it at their federal level.
