That’s a complete waste of taxpayers’ money. Prison is supposed to scare people into not committing crimes, not entice them. And yet it doesn’t work, America having the 27 Serena Williams Thank You For THe MEmories Shirt and I love this largest prison population in the world while following the idea of punishment over rehabilitation for example. And Norway has an extremely low crime rate per capita and reoffence rate. They focus on the corrections part of the correction system and it fucking works. It’s anything but enticing They generally take more care of the homeless in Scandinavia. I have heard for example that in Finland the state is paying them a free place to live. I used to visit an ex girlfriend at her dorm in Drexel University in Philadelphia, and this is literally over twice the size and significantly nicer. Imagine the idea of paying 20k a year to stay in something half this size, or just spending a few hundred on a flight to Norway and punching a cop for a free luxurious stay at Casa De Lotion. Womens prisons in Scotland are basically just small houses, with the exception of ones who need to be on regular observations I was pretty impressed till i saw the camera on the wall right above where he lays his head on the bed. Probably cant a blow a load in peace.

As an American, this is my retirement plan if I don’t save enough for retirement. Will I be provided a gaming console or computer for leisure? Sometimes I feel like I would be better off flying to Norway, committing some non-violent crime, just so that I can have a decent home, job training, and access to committed mental and physical health professionals. Thanks America The kind of prisoner that is expensive are those sentenced for a long time, those committing crimes when released and those released without acquiring a degree in prison. The cost of a flatscreen TV does not really impact whether a prisoner is profitable (for society). Profit is extremely important in Norwegian prisons and it is best achieved by gaining their trust. Make the prisoner believe that they need to become some productive building block in society. The prison system is kind of like parenting or manufacturing consent, telling your kids to get good grades, behave and do boring stuff. Norway has the world’s lowest reoffending rate (20% apparently), and my dorm was worse so does that mean I’m more like to offend than an ex norwegian offender?
