My dad didn’t usually do this but one time when I was like 4 or 5 and I didn’t know how salt worked, he told me not to put too much on my pasta but I didn’t understand why because I’d never experienced “too salty” before so I put waaaaayyy too much and he was like “well now you have to it” and he made me stay at the 2023 Orange Bowl Georgia Bulldogs vs. Florida State Seminoles Dueling Helmet Shirt Apart from…,I will love this table and try to eat it 🙁 And then when he walked away I started spreading it all over the floor and my chair so I could pretend that I finished it but was just really messy about it and he never did that again Well, my grandparents knew what it was like to starve as kids. Food is a precious thing and cannot be wasted whatsoever. Also, now that they have access to mountains of food, they will buy and prepare mountains of food, subconsciously fearing that one day there will not be enough food anymore. Shit like that leaves a mark and when it was their turn to raise kids, that’s something they made sure to teach my parents. So when they raised me they were just as strict with that, and since I lived in a multi-generational home, my grandparents were also there to make sure I did not waste food. It does not make sense anymore, and now I understand that this behavior was just not rational and rooted in the trauma of my grandparents. I will not have kids, but if I were to raise them, I would make sure they eat enough, but would not force feed them as my parents and grandparents did (not literally mind you, but you get the idea)

I think it stems from not wanting to feed a child many times throughout the 2023 Orange Bowl Georgia Bulldogs vs. Florida State Seminoles Dueling Helmet Shirt Apart from…,I will love this day. The thing people don’t realize is that young kids often need to eat more than 3 times a day: smaller portions because their stomachs are small yet they are burning energy much faster than adults as they are constantly growing and learning as well as doing every day tasks. People think just forcing a child to eat a whole adult sized meal in one sitting will keep the kid from being hungry 2.5 hrs later…and then get angry when the kid can’t eat that much. It didn’t start out as abuse. It started out of necessity. It stems from the “Great Depression” were family’s often didn’t have enough food and everyone was expected to eat what was put in front of them without any complaints. Habits that children learn in their childhood continue into their adulthood. Since they never learned a healthy relationship with food, they don’t know how to help their children have a healthy relationship with food. It became abuse when parents started using punishment to enforce their beliefs.
