I had just bought a house in January this year, middle of winter, and was talking about getting a pet, a dog specifically. I was seeing a girl at the time that lived like 20 miles away from me and she texted me that there was a stray cat with no collar outside her door, it was snowing and the temperature was close to 0F (I think it was around 5° out ) so she let him in but he was aggressive toward her own cats so she couldn’t keep him. I told her to make a found cat post and bring him to me til (if) someone claimed him. She brought him to me and stayed the night so she could take him to the vet in the morning. After his vet visit, which was $600, we were told he was severely underweight (aduly male nebelungs should be anywhere from 15-18lbs, he was about 7lbs), worms, an ear infection in both ears, matted fur, and dehydrated. His chip was registered to a TNR company. Sometime later that day, the girl I was seeing got a message from a lady claiming that he belonged to her family, and her proof was a zoomed in picture taken from maybe 50-75ft away of a little girl playing with him, and the “owner” refused to provide his chip number, but just to be safe I said let’s give him back, and if he’s found outside again I’ll take him back and we have medically documented proof that he’s being neglected which we can use to justify removing him from that person’s home. So he was reluctantly returned to the “owner” who didn’t even offer to reimburse the vet visit and took his medicine. Less than 8 hours later, in similar near 0° weather, he shows back up at the girls’ house at almost midnight so I said, screw that lady she doesn’t deserve him and that’s how I ended up with my fluffy shadow (he follows me everywhere when I’m home), and i had to repalce the medicine she took which was another $200 almost. A few days later, the lady who claimed him made a lost cat post. We, in fact, did not tell her that he adopted a better human.

Well done, he was very lucky to have found you both. I cannot understand how someone can neglect and do harm to such a magnificent creatute. What about his personality? How is daily life with him under your roof? I would love to know more about your beautiful cat. He’s a textbook nebelung, they have very gentle and friendly personalities, but very shy around strangers. He likes to scream a lot when he wants to go outside, which is at least 5 times a day, and I do let him out but supervised. He might be a bit traumatized because he freaks out at some very strange things, but I try not to put him in stressful situations. I had a cat who possibly had similar dark areas of the eyes (it is hard to tell if your cats dark spots are the same as my cat’s dark spots, given picture quality and cuz i’m going off of memory cuz said cat is now dead). She had extremely high blood pressure and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and one of the two issues (or the combination. Also, the two issues can be related, we dont know which came first) caused her to have a stroke. She would also periodically get dark spots in her eyes that wouldnt go away once they came. I think they were spots of blood, if i’m remembering correctly. All this to say- if u havent asked your vet about the dark patches, might be worth asking about! Tho if it isnt a natural variant of eye color and has been there the entire time you’ve known the cat and all health issues get ruled out currently, i would then suspect it would be related to his past health issues given the neglect/starvation/worms etc
