If it did pass, though, it would last longer than 8 months. If nothing else, there will still be a Democratic president who would veto attempts to repeal it. Ah yes you’re right, apologies. It would last 2 years and 8 months. Which is better than nothing. But as long as the senate is skewed R+5 we are really fighting uphill. Changing the filibuster should be used to admit democratic states and territories, we should split California into 2 or 3 states to give more fair Dem representation and admit those, we should pack the courts with 30 justices. That’s what the removal of the filibuster should be used for – long term and immediate gains that even the playing field and limit the GOP’s ability to wage war on the rest of us. Lifting it for anything else (i.e. just for Abortion) is short sighted, IMO. And it should only be lifted if we have the coalition to execute on those things.

Guys you don’t understand. If democrats do it than it’s wild and crazy and we can’t allow it. But if republicans want to do it than they are smart and crafty. But this is Reddit, so all liberal comments float to the top and all conservative comments are never seen. In all honesty I don’t even think they have the votes. Plus the GOP is going to take back the government in the next couple years so it’s probably not a good idea tbh. I dunno how there are apparently so many people who don’t understand that the dems have at best 48-49 votes for any remotely progressive piece of legislation. And sure you can use the argument that Sinema switched hard on her positions but Manchin has never switched. He has told us who he was from day 1, so what’s with all the surprise? Voters knew who Manchin was when they failed to unseat even the likes of Susan Collins, so the Dems had to scrape by in a special election for their “majority”. So all of this outrage to me just seems crazy. The fillibuster has zero percent chance of going away. When Democrats cannot even find a majority to vote for the bill, talking about ending the filibuster to pass it is a bit premature.
